Why your brand needs to be on Instagram

Over the past couple of decades, social media platforms have exploded in popularity. This mass adoption has forced brands and organizations of all sizes to explore new ways to market their products and leverage the audiences that have accounts on these sites.

It can be overwhelming to learn how to properly utilize each social media site when creating a social media strategy for your brand.  So where should you start?

Although there is no one size fits all approach to content strategy, Instagram is arguably the best place to start for brands that are new to the social media game.

To start Instagram has over 2 billion users, 500 million of which are active daily. Although Facebook and YouTube have higher user bases, these platforms lack the broad age demographic that Instagram has. Instagram is also – arguably – one of the easiest platforms to target an audience on thanks to their algorithm.

Instagram is also a “visual platform,” which makes it great for commerce purposes.

The biggest reason that Instagram is such a great starting point for brands, however, is simply because of the many different types of content that can be posted to the platform. As far as organic content goes, there are traditional photo or carousel posts, stories, and – of course – reels. On top of this, there are options for paid social, shopping, as well as Threads, which connects directly to your Instagram account.

Each of these types of content can be used in different ways depending on your strategy. Although it may seem like a lot to understand, this variety is so valuable because it makes Instagram content reusable.

Obviously, each social media platform is different and should eventually be used in its own strategic manner. However, for brands that are not yet using social media, the most important thing above all is to just post consistently!

If you chose to use Instagram as a starting point, you can repost traditional feed content on Facebook, reel content on TikTok and YouTube shorts, story content on Snapchat, and Threads content on X. All of the sudden, the content you made for one platform is now being used across multiple and you are growing awareness before you learn about and strategize for each individual platform.

Social media is incredibly important and needs to be used strategically in order to get the most of it. However, the versatility of Instagram makes is the absolute best starting point for any brand that does not know where to start.
